you can get a professional of human resources or senior professional of human resources (PHR or SPHR) through the hr certification institute. this cert does not require courses, just an exam. you could also get a more specialized certification through world at work for compensation (certified compensation professional - CCP) or benefits (certified benefits professional - CBP). these require certain courses be taken and tests passed in order to acquire the certification.
