What courses do I need for Human Resources or BSA?
I am currently employed with a company that offers a wide variety of courses, and I would like to get a head start on taking some courses for Human Resources or a BSA, these courses are online and they do not have a category, you just need to search for them. I'm wondering what course suggestions could I search for to see if they are available to take so I can get a step forward in becoming a human resource representative or a BSA.. not necessarily in this building, but I do plan on taking an official college course or uni course on them , but I would like to know what is involved in both fields before I decide. I figure taking some courses on it, will help me decide on which would be the better path for me. Thanks :-)

If an employee is named in a lawsuit is the employer required to provide legal representation? Why or why not
If an employee is named in a lawsuit is the employer required to provide legal representation? Why or why not?
I am taking a Human Resources course for my BS. Through experience I'm thinking the answer is no, however I don't have any supporting documents or reason for my answer (guestimation).

If the company and the individual are both named the individual will be better off with separate counsel, The company is paying his bill and they will throw you under the bus, your atty is supposed to pull you out of the way.
2
Under a great many circumstances, in which both the employer and the employee are named as defendants, the two will share sufficient interests that they can be represented by the same counsel. There are advantages and disadvantages to doing it this way, but I wouldn't be too worried as the employee in this circumstance. By representing me, the lawyer is required to serve my interests. If my interests diverge from the employer's, then the lawyer will send me off to another lawyer. Even where their interests are different, it's usually *good practice* for the employer to cover all or most of the employee's legal fees. However, there's nothing obligatory about it. Sometimes, where the employee's conduct is not beyond reproach and brought unnecessary litigation down upon the employer, the employer will only cover a percentage of the employee's legal fees. Covering 90% of a $10,000 legal bill can still leave the employee with a significant financial burden arising from their conduct. It probably happens that the employee gets left holding the entire tab for his own legals. However, I've never seen it in an action primarily against the employer.
3
It depends. If the employee was sued while performing his official functions or duties then the employer should provide legal representation. The employer would be held responsible, in whole or in part, to the employee's act since it was in pursuance of his duties.

Do You mean a Human Resources Specialist? Work Environment for a HRS: Human resources specialists and generalists work for all kinds of businesses and organizations including accounting firms, hospitals, zoos, banks, department stores, and governments. They have a lot of contact with others both inside and outside of the organization. In a large organization that employs specialists in different areas, they work as part of a team with other human resources staff. Whether they work for a large or small organization, they must interact with all levels of staff and management. As well, they frequently have contact with people outside their companies, such as lawyers, government employees, and employment agency representatives. Both human resources specialists and generalists spend most of their time in offices. They may have to travel to attend conferences and training courses. They may also travel to other branches and offices of their organization. Human resources professionals tend to work 8 to 10-hour days, 40 to 50 hours a week. However, some practitioners, including those who hold supervisory positions in management, work longer hours during the week and occasionally on weekends. Education & Training: If you want to work as a human resources professional, you will need to first complete a high school diploma, and then obtain post-secondary education in the field. Colleges across the country offer associate and bachelor’s degree programs in human resources and related areas. It usually takes 2 years to complete an associate degree, and 4 years for a bachelor’s degree. The type of degree needed depends on the position and employer. Some employers will consider applicants with either an associate or a bachelor’s degree. However, a bachelor’s degree is generally preferred and larger companies may require it. Relevant degree programs include human resources administration or management, personnel, industrial, and labor relations, training and development, and compensation and benefits. Some employers look for college graduates with a technical or business background. A master's degree in human resources, labor relations, or in business administration with a concentration in human resources management is highly recommended for those seeking management positions. A master’s degree usually takes 2 years to complete. Suggested Qualifications: Some organizations offer certification programs, which are signs of competence and can help you to advance in the field. Human resources specialists and generalists must be excellent communicators, as they communicate with all levels of staff and management. They should be hard-working, well-organized, and able to work well under pressure. Networking is often the key to finding a job in human resources. If you know a human resources practitioner, ask him or her if there are any opportunities for you. Income: Annual salary rates for human resources workers vary according to their education, level of experience, and the type of work they perform. The location and size of the firm are also factors. Entry-level salaries for human resources practitioners range from about $27,000 to $41,000 a year. The national median income for people in this field is somewhere between $44,000 and $54,000 a year, depending on the area of specialization. However, senior specialists can earn $90,000 a year or more. Human resources managers usually make somewhere between $46,000 and $120,000 a year, although senior managers may earn more. Human resources vice-presidents who work with top management earn the highest salaries, ranging over $150,000 a year. People in this profession typically receive benefits, such as health coverage, paid vacation and sick days, and contributions to retirement plans.

This may sound dumb but, should I major in Sociology or H.R. if I want to be a Human Resource Manager?
I'm really passionate about the courses found in a sociology major. However, I'm not sure if this degree will help me get a job in human resources...do you think a more career-specific major (i.e. Human Resource Management) is better? I'm afraid that I'm weak at calculus portions of the business major (which is why I consider sociology).

If you posess a degree - or any other qualification - then you'll already be ahead of the masses when it comes to hunting for jobs. My pal has a degree and he wasn't certain what direction to go with it, but he unearthed some good instruction on the website in the resource box below which aided him to decide that he wanted to be a lab assistant. There is a lot of assistance on the website regarding other jobs.
2
To be a HR Manager you need to do HR. You can choose subjects that suit you more then others but Math is a requirement in all degrees.
3
If I were you, I would major in Business. I received a BBA in Marketing and don't remember having to take Calculus at all for that one. HR wants to be at the table with Senior Management. If that's really the case, you need to be a Business major who likes HR, not the other way around. Hope this helps. Bp

Which is a better business major with more options/money- management or human resource management
Which is a better business major with more options/money- management or human resource management?
I live close to Huntsville ,Al. It is full of defense contractors, the Redstone Arsenal, etc. I am interested in having a government job. Would I be better served with a major in human resource management or general management? Of course, I know H.R will often involve staffing, training, etc. But I definitely dont want a job in retail or anything like that. Which major is more versatile and will bring me better options? Which major will generate more income in the long run? My husband is wanting to take management of technology ,but not sure its for me. Isnt that dealing with a lot of technical computer stuff?? Just looking for thoughts. I know I am interested in a Business degree(but not Finance or Accounting) Give me your thoughts. Thanks

major(s) and Minor(s) are like left hand(s) and right (hand(s). You need to select a pair which will compliment each other. The major is not always the most important. it depends on whether your balance is important , or if your topic is important! You would also want to correlate with your husband and his major and minor, to find a balance there also. if the two of you correlate, and balance corectly, your journies into yourselves can be very enlightening, suportive, and self promoting, and progressively profitable. I personally believe college is overrated. I believe a self can teach a self best, and be more versatile. I as a master researcher, research many topics in overlapping projects. (MULTI-TASKING MY OWN EDUCATION)! This allows me to finish a topic about every week, even though i have been studying it for three years.

It is ashame that Finance and accounting is not an option for you. These two majors are the bread and butter of business and will provide you with a wider range of job opportunities. Depending on how smart you are, you may want to consider a business degree with an emphasis on economic. It is my opinion that this sort of degree is the most versatile and will not only open up many opportunities for you but will also allow you to advance in your career. However, economics is very difficult and EXTREMELY math intensive. If it is the math that is pushing away from finance and accounting then econ is not for you.

generally a psychology undergraduate degree/ business degree is a good major for this for entry level. there is a association for Human resource professionals training certification that is nice to have as well. i believe it is achieved web based / has network / forum / job info. in a smaller company you may be able to enter without degree and get some experience . jump to larger company. it's good to have degree though. you come in and they begin to pay for your MBA as you work. Once you are in generalist HR .. you will see more speciality areas of that branch out. recruiting/ staffing / training / talent rentetion . leadership development / compensation / benefits/ etc. etc. etc. Each have VP's, directors and mangement teams.
thanks

Look at it this way: if it does make a bad impression, is that really a place you really want to work? Simply call back and say you would like clarification as to whether what you thought you heard was correct.

How about either workplace harrassment or what constitutes a "hostile work environment" ?
2
Discuss the special needs of the employees who have limited English proficiency -- keeping them productive, and not alienated from their other-language peers.
3
Human resources responsibility to effectively mandate, maintain, and enforce workplace policies. You could go into detail regarding the importance of fairness and equal treatment/reprimanding of employees.
4
Why not tackle the communications processes in a corporate environment. Focus in particular on the informal communication (grapevine) aspect which is very active when the organizational hierarchy fails to properly communicate everything through the formal channel and why it is so. Add to that also how the informal communciation system could render the organization vulnerable to competitors.
5
How about Conflict Resolution in the Workplace. There are always people who hard difficult to work with even in very small offices and sometime the gossip or other problems can lead to some very unpleasant moments. Good Luck!!!!!

An essay is a short work of writing that treats a topic from an author's personal point of view. Essays are non-fictional but often subjective; while expository, they can also include narrative. Essays can be learned arguments, literary criticism, political manifestos, observations of daily life, recollections and reflections of the author. The definition of an essay is vague, overlapping with those of an article and a short story. Almost all modern essays are written in prose, but works in verse have been dubbed essays (Alexander Pope's An Essay on Criticism and An Essay on Man). While today an essay is partly defined by its brevity, voluminous works like John Locke's An Essay Concerning Human Understanding and Thomas Malthus's An Essay on the Principle of Population refer to themselves using the term. source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essay Internet is a rich source of information on any subject. Accounting is not an applied mathematics course, so it is likely the "easiest" that you will encounter. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division on various levels is what you will encounter. It may not sound dreamy, but it beats the tar out of statistics, geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and the sort!

When a Human Resources claim is filed against you, what is the best course of action?
Should I quit or stay on dutifly awaiting termination?

This depends on what the complaint is all about, whether it is true, or just an accusation.Unless you are guilty of some misconduct which can lead to your termination, I would defend myself against the complaint.
2
A Human Resources claim? Pink slip? Write up? I do not quite understand your question, but I would not quit, I would let them term me and then file for unemployment and if the company fights the claim for benefits then I would appeal it.
3
By awaiting termination means you are sure about the result of the HR claim against you. It is not understood, why you feel so. But, in my views you must face the action boldly to justify your stand and quit the job honourably after you win the case, so that your prestige and honour do not become at stake while seeking another job. This way you can even satisfy your interviewer for the next job when asked why did you leave the last job. You would be able to say with full confidence that the previous employer was in the habit of leveling false allegations on account of which you had to leave the job after winning your case and you did not want to work with such an unethical and immoral employer. However, if you need detailed advice, you are welcome to have my advice FREE of any charge by sending details to me at: psd1941@yahoo.co.uk I am a consultant in HR, Personnel and Vigilance matters along with other personal matters also.

You should cooperate and defend your actions, if you did nothing wrong. However, if you believe you are about to be terminated, you should admit your wrong and ask for mercy. Remember if you quit, you may be barred from collecting unemployment compensation.

Human resources people are there to help other workers. Among other things, they might -- Help the new hire (or someone who is being laid off ) with the paperwork. -- Make sure everybody gets a copy of the employee manual, communications from the boss, etc. -- Be a channel for complaints about the company or other workers. -- Help people with insurance questions. -- Make sure that company policies are being followed.

"Human resources" are the little twits that interview you and ask those stupid inane questions like, "Where do you hope to be in five years?", "How will you achieve your personal goals with this company?" that make me want to choke them and say "Where do you think? What goals? I want a frickin' JOB!"

Human resource management (HRM) is the strategic and coherent approach to the management of an organization's most valued assets - the people working there who individually and collectively contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the business. The terms "human resource management" and "human resources" (HR) have largely replaced the term "personnel management" as a description of the processes involved in managing people in organizations. In simple sense, HRM means employing people, developing their resources, utilizing, maintaining and compensating their services in tune with the job and organizational requirement. Human resources is a term used to refer to how employees are managed by organizations, or to the personnel department charged with that role. The field has moved from a traditionally administrative function to a strategic one that allegedly recognizes the link between talented and engaged people and organizational success. The field draws upon concepts developed in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and System Theory. Human resources has at least two related interpretations depending on context. The original usage derives from political economy and economics, where it was traditionally called labor, one of four factors of production although this perspective is changing as a function of new and ongoing research into more strategic approaches at national levels. This first usage is used more in terms of 'human resources development', and can go beyond just organizations to the level of nations. The more traditional usage within corporations and businesses refers to the individuals within a firm or agency, and to the portion of the organization that deals with hiring, firing, training, and other personnel issues, typically referred to as 'human resources management'. This article addresses both definitions.

The HR field is pretty varied. You can specialize in alot of areas, i.e. benefits, recruiting, compensation, etc. Or you can remain a generalist (someone who is involved in several functional areas). The pay will vary by geography, experience and the size of the organization you work for. For example, an HR Manager at a large publicly traded firm could very well be an HR Director at a smaller company so the titles are relative. Hope this helps. Human Resoucre departments exist for one thing and one thing only - to protect the company by mitigating the risks posed by having the need to work with human beings.
2
The HR department of course exists to serve both the functional needs (hiring, training....) of the firm as well as the firms' legitimacy needs (the appearance of intent to act in an equitable manner towards employees to avoid legal sanction or a costly bad reputation). This grim view has validity, but is not the whole explanation of the relationship. HR departments are made up of individuals who for intrinsic reasons, and via norms instilled through our society, are motivated by sources outside of their firm's immediate goals. Like any employee, they have interests that transcend merely making money for the boss. Many folks, at least the biz students that approach me about working in HR, are also interested in creating positive and equitable workplaces for lower level employees (instead of merely appearing to do so as many firm would prefer). Given this, many individuals in HR departments do pressure larger societal needs, or at least pressure for more attention towards such concerns as education, community influence, compensation structure and employee procurement. No surprise that human resource departments arose from both the need for employees in the 1940's and the difficulties of dealing with unions during World War II. Some firms found that using an HR department mitigated employee's feelings that they needed to organize to influence workplace safety and compensation. Anyhow, long answer to a short question.

Human resources is probaby studying to be a human resource generalist. HRM is human resource management, this type of degree would prepare you to be a HR Manager or Director. Typically a bachelors degree is 4 years, but you could do it in 3, some colleges offer fast track programs. I have never really heard of a 1 year bachelors degree. As for the hotel industry if you want to be a manager, then look at business management or administration degrees, an HR degree would be good if you wanted to specialize in hospiltality human resources. Hospitality is a good field to work in, but jobs are competitive, with most hotels, restaurants, and other hospitality enties often promoting from within. Normally these jobs can mean long hours and requring a great deal of customer service skills. If you are looking to get into the field, I suggest securing employment or interning at a restaurant, hotel, country club, or some other type of hospitality entity.

Try convincing them you can do the job despite not having worked in an HR department. Explain how you are interested in recruiting or developing employees. Read some books on the subject so you use the right vocabulary. One man's barrier's are another's stepping stones.

If you want to go the MBA route, you should work for 2-4 years first. If you want to OD route, I would go straight through to graduate school, but choose carefully. You might also want to work for a few years while you decide. What were your favorite courses in undergraduate? Do you want the benefits/compensation route, or the OD/training/internal consultant route? Or something else like labor relations? And what industries would interest you? Those all go into your thinking.

Unfortunately, the human resource field has got away from looking for "peoples persons" and most of the larger employers are looking for employees with degrees such as bachelor of business administration. I don't know how a piece of parchment on the wall makes you a good Human Resource person but that's the way it seems to be now, unfortunately.

Hi, I fell into HR and I have been doing it for 10 years since. You can start off by getting certified as a professional. The classes are not too expensive. Join professinal HR sites like SHRM. Villanova gives an online course that prepares you for the certification exam as well. You can also now get an Associates or Bachelors in business with a concentration in Human Resources. A degreeis not neccessary when you start, but you can not make it to a director level without one. You should start appling for administrative positions in HR and you can work your way up from there. Good luck!

An MBA of any type will require that you have reading in most of the following areas: accounting, finance, economics, operations, and strategy. I don't think your PG in social anthropology will be identical. You should check the reading lists for both programs.

KD, The information below is an excerpt from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 Edition. It should prove helpful. If you'd like to learn a lot more about the Human Resources career field, you may want to go to this site: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos021.htm#training Human Resources, Training, and Labor Relations Managers and Specialists Education and training. Although a bachelor’s degree is a typical path of entry into these occupations, many colleges and universities do not offer degree programs in personnel administration, human resources, or labor relations until the graduate degree level. However, many offer individual courses in these subjects at the undergraduate level in addition to concentrations in human resources administration or human resources management, training and development, organizational development, and compensation and benefits. Because an interdisciplinary background is appropriate in this field, a combination of courses in the social sciences, business administration, and behavioral sciences is useful. Some jobs may require more technical or specialized backgrounds in engineering, science, finance, or law. Most prospective human resources specialists should take courses in principles of management, organizational structure, and industrial psychology; however, courses in accounting or finance are becoming increasingly important. Courses in labor law, collective bargaining, labor economics, and labor history also provide a valuable background for the prospective labor relations specialist. As in many other fields, knowledge of computers and information systems is useful.

Can someone recommend me some colleges for MBA course in Human Resource Management with institute’s mail id? When the admission will start and what will be fees? Is there any entrance test for taking admission? If yes, then which type of questions?

Who's legit when it comes to Human Resource Certification? Who does their professional regulations
Who's legit when it comes to Human Resource Certification? Who does their professional regulations?
I would like to study for my PHR certification and don't know where to start. I see 1,000's of websites that advertise study courses for certification. Is there a professional body for Human Resource People? If so, can you tell me who it is? Thanks.

The PHR is certified by the Society of Human Resources Management. (www.shrm.org) They have certification prep programs on their website. I would also think any program thought the adult education division of your local university would also be legit. What is your background? Do you deal with a lot of employment law - wage & hour / leave management / minimal OSHA, etc? If you deal with this, day and day out, it may not be cost effective for you to pay for a prep session. I earned my SPHR in 1995. At the time, I only studied off of the free study guide that is given when you sign up for the certification test (I'm guessing this is still given out). I have never dealt with the day to day labor law type stuff, although that's what the entire test was based on. And I passed the first time I took the test. I have never re-taken the test, instead I get recertification hours. Note: I do know that many people have a hard time passing the test and need to re-take it multiple times before passing. Good luck!

you can get a professional of human resources or senior professional of human resources (PHR or SPHR) through the hr certification institute. this cert does not require courses, just an exam. you could also get a more specialized certification through world at work for compensation (certified compensation professional - CCP) or benefits (certified benefits professional - CBP). these require certain courses be taken and tests passed in order to acquire the certification.

What category would human resource manager go under in a specific major
What category would human resource manager go under in a specific major?
Right now I'm signing up on a website that'll help me choose the right college to attend for my desired career/major. I'm thinking of becoming a resource manager, but the intended majors or too broad and I don't know which one to choose, since they don't just have specifically human resource, of course. All I know, its one of these two majors:business or public administration (the only two majors that make since that would fit human resource manager). Which one is it? The website only gives me limited majors and I'm tryig to choose the best one that makes since to be a human resource manager.

should i study human resource management
should i study human resource management?
i am interested in studying human resource management in university. But, the problem is that i've only developed the interest now. I am third year of high school and I haven't taken any business courses. Although, I am taking accounting ( not really sure if it will help). (I know that the pre-requisites of studying human resource does not need a business course.)...Would it be difficult not knowing anything about business?Do you think i can still survive if i don't know anything about business?? I used to want to do pharmacy, but it seems really hard. Which should i go for?

Job outlooks for human resource management seems promising. You do not need any background knowledge of business while in high school. You can start taking business classes in college. I majored in HR my first two years of college and i didn't know anything about business either when i first started college. You don't actually begin taking business courses until your sophmore year. Don't worry about the classes. You learn one step at a time. Yes pharmacy is harder and longer to graduate, but if it is really what you want to do, then go for it. Or, when you get into college, take a chemistry or biology course along with a business course and see what suits your interest more. College is about experiencing different fields of study. You're allowed to changed your major if you find something else that's better suited. Good luck

If they were not collected then did this person feel they were they only employee on the planet that didn't have to pay taxes???

What courses do you have to take for a human resource career or degree?
Im in college right now (just started) and im trying to get a degree in business administration but I wanna know about human resource career. For you who went to college for that, what classes did you have to take? Cause with Business administration I have to take up to business calculus and accounting classes. To much math for me actually, idk wat i was thinking.

If your college offers any courses in Human Resources any of those would be great to take. However smaller schools don't always have them. I went to a small college and majored in communication but that is fine for working in HR. Most HR jobs are just looking for you to have a degree in business, management, psychology, communication, or some other general degree. You really should focus on looking for an internship or part time job in HR so you can start getting experience while in college. There are a lot of entry level positions out there but unless you have an HR specific degree they are going to want you to have some experience.

I don't have experience in H.r. and have been unable to obtain a job as a entry level position. If u can get into h.r. it's a good field, and it pays decently... Good luck to you!

Can any Human Resource Manager share his experience?
Hey human resource managers! :) I'll graduate college this year and I was planing to apply for manager courses and then choose human resource management specialization. If you have any experience in this field can you please share it? What it takes to become HRM (personal qualities, education, etc.) Is it hard job? Why? Do you enjoy it? Just tell me your experiences if you work or have worked as HRM. Thank you.

Somewhere in the world there is a proverb that says: "The farmer did not say how good the cheese with pears ..." I personally think that since you posted the question, not difficult, in this section and you do not already have all the elements you suggest a keyword search on any browser. Given the few comparisons to your question, it seems that all the specialists have put 's acceptance of a fact: don't let answers. Wow! It's terrible.

US has more universities for you too choose, and there are different kinds of financial aid to apply. so If I were you I would choose US. on the other hand, I think most depends on yourself, if you can get into the top university. just remember, the better the university is, the more scholarships you can apply to and might get finally. I dunno which universities you wanna get into. so I cant tell the details of the universities. just check out those ones you're interested online, there's a link named "financial aid" in admission area, i think you can get more info there by yourself. good luck!

Peoplesoft would probably be the most commonly used ERP sized application for HR. Payroll applications usually tend to be outsourced to a vendor (Paychex, ADP, etc) or processed by a custom application in house.

I found the course to be education in a business perspective and found it to be useful. I would suggest anyone with a business mind to take it.

Human resources officers provide administration services for the recruitment and employment of staff. Human resources officers may perform the following tasks: conduct analyses to determine staffing numbers, skills and needs to meet the organisation's objectives analyse the skills and qualities required for each particular job and develop job descriptions and duty statements advertise staff vacancies, assess applications, interview applicants, give selection tests, prepare reports and make recommendations to management about staff appointments maintain the personal records of employees on matters such as wages, superannuation, leave and training, and prepare associated management reports arrange for and conduct staff training use a number of management information systems to record, maintain, plan and manage the organisation's human resources provide advice and information to management and employees on personnel policies and procedures, including equal opportunity, anti-discrimination and occupational health and safety programs advise employees on work matters, career development, personal problems and industrial matters, and organise employee welfare services such as canteens, first aid, superannuation and social activities take part in enterprise bargaining talks where employees, management and unions discuss the development of specific work arrangements and conditions (e.g. pay and hours of work) help put in place organisational changes (e.g. those following from industrial relations legislation, revised job classification structures or technological changes) take part in strategic management. In small organisations, human resources officers are usually responsible for all staffing matters. In large organisations they may specialise in a particular area, such as recruitment, wages and entitlements or staff training. Personal Requirements: good planning, organisational, analytical and decision-making skills good oral and written communication skills confidentiality, tact and discretion when dealing with people. I guess with management youd be in charge and have more responsibilities but this is where you would start Hope this helps:D

IE: someone who hires, trains, gets you set up, handles any internal conflicts between employees, etc. Honestly, it's mostly just the larger companies that can afford to hire someone specifically dedicated to it. It will of course make you eligible for a normal manager's job as well, so it won't hurt you to major in it and just adds a more specified element to it.
I was planning to shift to this course. Could it give a lot of opportunities, careers when one's a graduate here? What kind of career could I possibly get?

I guess you should firstly be well-versed with MS Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Access, FrontPage, etc.). After that, depending on the type of company that you would be working for, you might want to specialize in certain type of software. For example, for a ad agency, you may consider learning Adobe Photoshop, Flash, etc. whereas for an accounting firm you might want to learn Quicken, Tally, etc.
